Your Perfect Finish Awaits
With our premium Javanese Grade-A teak’s exceptional performance, your chosen finish can either be purely aesthetic or serve a functional role—depending on how your piece will be used.
A finish is more than a surface treatment—it’s a defining step in the craftsmanship process. From meticulous preparation like multiple sanding stages to the careful application itself, each finish brings out teak’s character, protects its surface, and reflects your personal style.
Whether you prefer an oiled finish for a warm golden hue or the unique character of a stained or bleached look—or one of our exclusive combinations, like Bleached + Oiled—there’s a finish crafted just for you.
Not sure where to start? Natural Sanded is a favorite for its effortless sophistication and versatility, with easy refinishing options later.
The Hidden Cost of Paint—Let Teak Breathe
Painting Grade-A teak may seem like an upgrade, but often leads to regret.
Teak is alive in its own way—it breathes, releasing rich oils and minerals in rhythm with nature. Sealing it under paint chokes the wood, accelerating its decay.
Its golden-brown luster, rich in natural oils, is not meant to be confined.
Instead of masking its essence, choose curated finishes that work in harmony—preserving its strength, depth, and connection to nature.
Note: This does not apply to lower-grade teak, which lacks sufficient natural oils and minerals and requires paint or sealants.
Finish Notes for Irregular or Organic Pieces (e.g., Teak Roots)
✓ Natural Character Preserved: finishes such as bleached, stained, or combination options involve light surface sanding to ensure smooth absorption and a refined, consistent look.
✓ Subtle Outer Change: This gentle sanding slightly softens the raw exterior of the teak root or branch, while maintaining its organic shape and tactile texture.
✓ Root Integrity Maintained: The natural form, grain patterns, knots, and sculptural appeal remain fully visible—now enhanced with a finish that complements your aesthetic.
Note: This guidance applies specifically to products crafted from roots or branches, where the traditional Grade-A classification does not apply. In these cases, key considerations are the origin and maturity of the tree—well-aged roots and branches can still offer exceptional quality and longevity.
🎯 Smart Buying
Not all teak is created equal. Understanding teak grades can save your wallet, spare you headaches, and help the planet.
Some sellers misuse the term 'teak' without specifying its grade (A, B, or C) or mislabel lower-grade teak—or even entirely different woods (e.g., 'Philippine teak,' known as Vitex parviflora, or 'Brazilian teak,' known as Cumaru), misleading buyers who expect true Grade-A quality. The only exception applies to products made from the roots or branches of the teak tree, where grade is not relevant. In these cases, the key considerations should be the tree’s origins and whether it was well-aged, as well-aged roots and branches can still offer premium quality.
When you choose Grade-A teak, you’re selecting one of the finest woods on the planet.
✓ Grade A: The innermost 35% of the tree—its heartwood, packed with natural oils for maximum durability.
✓ Grade B: The outer 35% of the heartwood or younger trees. Lower oil content, more variation, less durability.
✓ Grade C: Sapwood—soft, porous, and prone to rot—least desirable.
Why Grade-A?
✓ Unmatched Durability: High oil and silica content prevent warping, cracking, swelling, and fire damage.
✓ Natural Protection: Oils and tannins shield against decay, mold, pests, and UV rays.
✓ Resilient & Chemical-Free: Lipids and tannins regulate moisture naturally, ensuring a long-lasting, eco-friendly finish.
Teak'al only uses 100% premium Javanese Grade-A teak—never reclaimed, never Grade B or C.
